Within the Museum Murals project, street artists have created a mural, inspired on a special story from twenty Dutch museums. The project took place in 2024. Artist Sidney Waerts took on the challenge to create a mural on Texel, inspired by the world-famous dress from the Palmwood wreck. The artwork can be seen on the wall of Bouwcentrum RAB at the Vlamkast in the centre of Oudeschild on Texel.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Museum Murals bring art to the outdoor space for everyone to enjoy. It\u2019s a way of taking the museums\u2019 extraordinary collections beyond their walls. \"DeThe inspiration<\/h2>\n

In participating in Museum Murals, Kaap Skil Museum saw a perfect opportunity to visualize the enchanting stories from the collection outside the museum. The pi\u00e8ce de r\u00e9sistance<\/em> of Kaap Skil Museum\u2019s collection is a seventeenth century dress of royal stature, recovered from the Wadden Sea. The impressive silk dress has been found near a shipwreck named the Palmwood wreck. Despite having rested on the seabed for almost four decades, the precious garment is still pretty much intact. It\u2019s a world-famous, unique discovery; few items of clothing from the seventeenth century have been kept.<\/p>\n

\"\"The artist<\/h2>\n

Sidney Waerts is a versatile artist who describes his work as a blend of photorealism and expressive abstraction. In recent years, he has focused on murals, painting large walls in public spaces. \u201cMurals help strengthen solidarity in neighbourhoods,\u201d Sidney says. For his Texel mural, Sidney was given complete carte blanche, with only one condition: the image had to be inspired by the dress and the accompanying story of the Texel Roads.<\/p>\n
